West Central Tribune: Affordable housing needs hit home for Montevideo’s mayor

EXCERPT: “The problem of finding affordable housing in rural Minnesota has hit home for the mayor of Montevideo. Mayor Debra Lee Fader has decided to withdraw as a candidate for re-election. She hasn’t been able to find an affordable home to buy or an apartment to rent since she and her husband, Bradley, sold the Sportsmen’s Inn, the motel business they operated in Montevideo. The mayor said she didn’t feel right about campaigning for mayor when she couldn’t be certain she would be able to find a place to call home. And, it’s been stressful worrying about it, she said. ‘If you don’t have a place to go to, what can you do?’ she said. The experience of searching for affordable housing has shown her just how large the problem really is. ‘It’s one of the number one problems in rural counties,’ Fader said.” FULLSTORY: http://bit.ly/2NDA12t
