St. Cloud Times: In tight labor market, companies with increased holiday demand may struggle hiring workers

EXCERPT: “If employers thought they were having a hard time hiring this year, companies looking for seasonal holiday workers are expecting an even tougher time finding help. According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, there are more job vacancies in greater Minnesota than unemployed people for the first time since DEED started tracking job vacancies 17 years ago. ‘We have a very tight labor market,’ said Oriane Casale, assistant director of DEED’s Labor Market Information Office. ‘We have more vacancies right now than unemployed people both in the Twin Cities as well as across greater Minnesota.’ In the fourth quarter when seasonal holiday hiring occurs, Minnesota typically sees a rise in retail and transportation and warehousing jobs. Last year, the state added around 2,000 retail jobs and 13,000 transportation and warehousing jobs in the fourth quarter, according to Casale.” FULLSTORY: http://bit.ly/2Egj2zr
