Hutchinson Leader: Peterson weighs in on farm programs

EXCERPT: “President Donald Trump’s proposed budget, which calls for $231 billion in reductions to spending, shouldn’t scare anyone. But the cuts it suggests are red flags. That’s the take of U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson, a Blue Dog Democrat who represents Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District. He was in Hutchinson Friday for Dairy Day, and stopped by the Leader office. “Congress uniformly ignores the president’s budget. We ignored Obama’s budgets,” he said. Targeted by the proposed cuts are rural development programs, conservation, crop insurance, food stamps and numerous other programs. Peterson said he and other representatives are calling the proposal “dead in the water,” but what worries him is where the ideas for the cuts came from, and where he has seen similar language in the past.” FULLSTORY: http://bit.ly/2sUKLMv
